See picture Gallery (and select mid winters category)
This year’s Midwinters had every type of wind condition which surely tested the competitors skills. We had warm weather, good food, and a wonderful venue in Davis Island YC. Sailors in attendance:
1402 – skipper Steve Aspery with David Aspery and Connor Smith.
1424 – skipper Mike McClinchie with Bill Smith and Bruce Courts.
730 – skipper Jim Milliman and Lou Ridriguez.
472 – skipper Ron Herbig and Joy Dorethy.
Friday was blowing upper teens to low twenty in knots. Just 1402 and 1424 went out. Team Asery had two bullets.
Saturday had decent breeze early. As the morning progressed under sunny skies the temperature rose to the mid 70′s. The first race two races had decent wind. Our third race was shortened in the second windward leg under very light wind conditions. The RC sent us back to shore for a couple hours. The sea breeze filled in from the west but with shifty conditions the RC was unable to send us off. Team Aspery had three bullets this day.
Sunday again had nice morning breeze for the first race. The last race of the regatta was extremely light and shifty. In the end Team McClinchie crossed the line first by about a boat length with Team Milliman and Team Aspery crossing seconds later.
Final standings were Aspery, McClinchie, Milliman and Herbig.
Next event Chiefs Regatta at Leatherlips YC April 30th and May 1st.
